CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: NORTHERN ALBERTA INT’L CHILDREN’S FESTIVAL

The Northern Alberta International Children’s Festival and the City of St. Albert are seeking expressions of interest (qualifications) from experienced Artists to produce recognition artworks. These artworks will recognize and celebrate the contributions of the Festival’s major corporate sponsors, and will be presented at the Opening Night event on June 1, 2010.

The Festival celebrates high calibre performing, literary and visual arts for children. It brings together professional artists from around the globe and across Canada. The Festival raises approximately $1.2 million annually to provide affordable cultural experiences for children. Artworks may be displayed in corporate offices or private residences. Forty two (42) artworks may be comprised of the following mediums: sculpture, pottery, paper, fibre, painting, photography, mixed or other. The forty two artworks should be similar in size, colour and theme. The Festival theme is the butterfly and this theme should inspire the artworks.

Submissions must include

  • Curriculum vitae, including name, address, email, website (where applicable), education, exhibition record (list maximum of 10), permanent collections and commissions (maximum of 10)
  • Artist’s statement: 200 words maximum, including description of the proposed artworks concept, content and materials, as well as how the artworks will recognize and celebrate the outstanding achievements of St. Albert residents in the arts
  • Images of artworks that indicate the artist’s qualifications to complete the commission or proposed artworks images for submission and need to include:
    1. 6 high -resolution JPEG digital images or 6 good-quality 4×6 photographers numbered to correspond with image information sheet
    2. 3 additional images to feature different angles and details of 3-dimensional artworks
    3. Digital images, saved in the correct orientation or photographs with the orientation indicated on the back of the photographs. NO VISIBLE SIGNATURES OR NAMES ON IMAGES (please cover or block out names).
    4. Image information sheet that includes artist’s name, titles and image numbers, sizes, mediums, dates of creation
  • Self-address stamped envelope with sufficient postage to return the submission

Conditions of entry:

  • competition is open to Alberta residents who are visual artists
  • maximum of 2 entries per person
  • each entry must be an original design
  • jurors will assess entries based on artistic merit, originality, suitability, context and ability to establish clear title
  • late or incomplete entries will not be accepted
  • City of St. Albert will require permission from the successful applicant to use images of the artworks for City/Festival purposes
